Opening Reception: Saturday, February 16th from 7-10PM at Rational Park
Rational Park
2557 W. North Avenue
Chicago, Illinois 60647
Please join us on February 16th from 7-10PM at Rational Park for an opening reception to celebrate the work of Heather Gabel being exhibited at the Damen Blue Line stop in Wicker Park. Gabel’s work is comprised of visually fantastic situations that are not based in reality, but rather, chance associations constructed in the far reaching corners of her mind. Her work is at once nostalgic and timeless, cleverly juxtaposing classic imagery with clean, stark lines and cutting irony. Her five newest works created specifically for the CTA and Damen Blue Line stop, in conjunction with Johalla Projects, uphold the same sentiments while continually expounding upon her personal aesthetic. These latest compositions echo the beauty and mystery of the past, while the collage component creates an almost dark or bewitching element. These sacred circles she has created draw heavily upon ancient energies to form a sacred space, providing a meditative form of magical protection, rich with spiritual significance. The reception will feature prints and t-shirts of the original works being exhibited, as well as the original pieces that will be installed at the Blue Line stop available for sale.HEATHER GABEL (b. 1977)
Experienced in many mediums, she combines painting, collage, and photography in a unique fashion to create iconic images that have a lasting visual impact on viewers. Currently living and working in St. Augustine, Florida, Gabel has exhibited her work across the country and around the globe.
